Bug Description
initramfs-tools (0.83) unstable; urgency=high
...
* update-initramfs: Keep an initramfs backup while we are running. Do also
keep the booted initramfs as .bak in /boot. First helps on power cut.
Second is a good conservative approach and demanded feature.
Thanks Thiemo Nagel <email address hidden> for report. (closes: 387780)
I think this is an important change that should be included in Edgy. Already, my laptop causes the hibernate script to freeze on resume waiting for "modprobe thermal" to finish, which also causes update-initramfs to freeze. This combination could leave the system in an unbootable state, especially for a user that doesn't know how to fix it. At least this fix would make it easier to recover from such a situation.
I think today this is outdated, for future reference you should subscribe the Ubuntu Package Archive Administrators to freeze exception requests.
