Bug Description

Binary package hint: apt

Hi,
The permission of /var/lib/apt/extended_states is 600
so the notification-daemon complains about wrong permissions.
Setting it to 644 only works till the next apt-get update

Hi! Thanks for your bug report.

What version of Ubuntu are you using?
I'm using edgy and the permissions of this file are correct (644).

Also, did you do any upgrade, or did you remember the first time this happened?

What is your umask setting as root? Just type (in a terminal):
$ sudo bash -c umask

umask is 0022 which should be fine.

ok found it.
my user umask is 0666 so when I make a sudo -s and run aptitude update
the permissions get messed up. Think this shouldn´t happen.

Hummm.

Can you try the same with apt-get instead of aptitude and tell us what happens?

I guess we have to change the description of this bug and (depending of your response) change the software affected by this unwanted behavior.

apt-get changes the permission after a new packages is installed.
aptitude changes it when you run "install" even when no new package is installed.
