Bug Description

Every time I try to play a movie in vlc it crashes. It doesn't matter what kind of movie ( avi, mpg, bin/cue ).
When I run vlc from the command line I get the following:

** (.:5180): CRITICAL **: clearlooks_style_draw_focus: assertion `height >= -1' failed
[00000549] main private error: cannot re fill buffer
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

I'm running Edgy with all the latest updates on an iBook g3 900. If I need to supply more information, please say so.

Try starting from console with ./vlc --intf=rc instead of ./wxvlc

It seems to be a interface issue. wxwidgets for PPC might have a problem perhaps.

Hi. I had the same problem. I'm running Edgy on an iBook G3 (800 MHz). I tried to open an mp4 file (http://lix.cc/~lix/lix.cc/film/Alex_Antener-Freie_Software_eine_Chance_fuer_Afrika-23C3.mp4).
The problem is repoducable. Maybe the report file is of any help.

I had the same problem since my upgrade from Feisty to Gutsy. I moved the ~/.vlc directory, relaunched VLC and everything worked fine.

Previously I had this error :

There have been a large number of bugfixes with the latest VLC release, 1.0.0~rc2-1ubuntu1. Can you reproduce your issue with this latest version? You can test this in Ubuntu Karmic, or Ubuntu Jaunty with the MOTU Media PPA at https://launchpad.net/~motumedia/+archive/ppa . Thanks in advance.

This report has now grown useless as is. It seems to me that nearly all contributors to this bug are experiencing similar symptoms (vlc does not work) with very different causes.

As the original reporter, peter76, seems to have lost interest in this issue, (no further comment since submitting this bug), I'm closing this bug.

To all other subscribers to this bug: please report new bugs, but please make sure that you use the 'ubuntu-bug' utility to ensure that additional information, like the exact version of vlc and what dependencies that you use are attached automatically.

Sorry for this inconvinience.
