Bug Description

Hi I'm a new Linux user so I can't really provide you with much details. I'm attaching the 2 files requested and a copy+paste of the "Installer crashed" message. This has occured twice on my machine (Intel pentium 4 1.5 Ghz, 512 MB, Intel GB850 MB, 8.3 GM Maxtor HD). Installation has been ordered to format the HD it's being installed on and this was the result I got in the end of the installtion:

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/ubiquity", line 130, in ?
    install(sys.argv[1])
  File "/usr/bin/ubiquity", line 55, in install
    ret = wizard.run()
  File "/usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/ubiquity/frontend/gtkui.py", line 264, in run
    self.progress_loop()
  File "/usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/ubiquity/frontend/gtkui.py", line 550, in progress_loop

    os.utime(directory, (atime, mtime))

Can't find a place to attach files... :(

This looks like a bad burn. Could you please try to verifiy the cd.

Thanks for the quick reply.
Is there somewhere I can find a checksum? And errr... A prog that checks the
checksum for a given disc?
I'm quite noobish on these things so excuse me for the stupid questions...
:)

Thanks in advance.

In the meantime (tried some checksum software, but couldn't find something
that works, and it's pretty late),
I've bruned another CD and I get the same error again.
Seems like the directory /target/dev/pts isn't being created by the
installer (or at least thats what it looks like to me), and the installer
fails on copying files to a non-existent directory... I might be wrong
though (I probably am).

Thanks.

The CD itself has a feature to validate the CD at the boot screen. If you still have the disc you can try that. I'll close the bug now, but please open it again if you still see this issue on a later version of Ubuntu.
