Bug Description

I just upgraded my Dapper to Edgy which resulted in usplash becoming very dark and low contrast.

usplash version: 0.4-33
Linux version: 2.6.17-10-generic

My video card is Matrox Millennium G450 DualHead and my ViewSonic VX712 monitor is attached to head number one of the card. Could be a video driver bug?

The picture seems to lighten up just before xorg gets loaded.

Almost same here, upgrade from dapper to edgy, Matrox G400. But I didn't see that lightening up, although it's possible I just missed it (only have seen 1 boot of edgy :-))

Same here on a Matrox G550 with Sony Multiscan G420 monitor. Usplash worked fine in dapper, but is hardly visible in edgy, at first I thought usplash wasn't working at all. The default usplash resolution was 1600x1200, but I also tried 1400x1050 and 640x480 which didn't make a difference.

Is there a chance this bug will be fixed?

same problem with a matrox g550 and a Belinea 22inch flat panel - i am using the dsub head not the dvi.

this is with an up to date edgy that was dist-upgraded from dapper.

This also happens on my laptop.

Toshiba Portégé 3010CT.
with Neomagic graphics chipset.

Usplash is a bit dim on the integrated display. On an attached external display it is almost impossible to see Usplash.

When I run "usplash -c" from command line after the system is started and then switch to another virtual console the colors seem to brighten up just before the switch happens. This is a similar effect to the one that happened in my original report with Matrox card just before starting xorg. The "brightening up" behavior seems make Usplash look as, if it was operating correctly. Of course I can not be 100% sure because the colours are bright for a very short time.

I also want to point out that I have seen Edgy operate correctly with bright colors. So this bug report is not a matter of taste.

Upgrading to Feisty fixed this for my Matrox card.
Haven't tried yet, if the bug still exists on Toshiba.

Yep. Upgrading to Feisty fixes this for Toshiba Portégé 3010CT laptop (Neomagic graphics chipset) too.

Folks, Toni reports that this bug has been corrected for two machines, so I'm tempted to mark as fix released. But something stays my hand: Confirmation from a few others with other hardware would be good.

So I'm going to put this into Needs Info: Please test this under Feisty when you are able. If the problem persists, we'll re-confirm. If the problem has been resolved, we'll close.

Thanks all!
