Bug Description

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.17-10-generic

On my Thinkpad T60 the hdaps module swaps the x and y axes. If I tilt the laptop to the right or left hdaps-gl reports it as a rotation around the perpendicular axis and vice versa. Maybe this is related to bug #33950. As this seems to be a minor issue, a similar patch like in #33950 will hopefully find its way into the next kernel update in edgy.

I installed linux-image-2.6.17-50-generic today which claims to fix this. Unfortunately, it doesn't, because, I guess, it only inverts one or both axes, instead of swapping x and y. Is it possible to swap x and y?

If you can, please retest with the latest Hardy kernel. bug 33950 has addressed this. Thanks.

I've tested with the latest Hardy kernel now. It still doesn't work out of the box but you can make it work by first loading tp_smapi and then hdaps_ec with option invert=7:
modprobe tp_smapi
modprobe hdaps_ec invert=7.
Could invert=7 be made the default for the T60 in one of the upcoming kernel updates please?

The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux-image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and test.

--or--

2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4. Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced. You should then be able to test via a LiveCD.

Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the 2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26 kernel. Thanks again, we really appreicate your help and feedback.

Per a decision made by the Ubuntu Kernel Team, bugs will longer be assigned to the ubuntu-kernel-team in Launchpad as part of the bug triage process. The ubuntu-kernel-team is being unassigned from this bug report. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies for more information. Thanks.

@Matthias -- to make it the default we would need the output from the dmidecode command from the machine.

Intrepid doesn't include hdaps_ec at all, which seems to be needed for the T60 acceleration sensor to work (see bug #297213). Anyway, should I send you the output of dmidecode in an email or is it safe to post this information here on this public space?
