Edgy doesn't let me switch to console

Bug Description

After installing edgy on my Lenovo T60, I can't switch to any of the six consoles (Ctrl-Alt-F{1-6]). I just get a blurry (fglrx) or black (vesa) screen. Switchting back to F7 works.
Note: The default display-driver (vesa) doesn't even give me a working X11-login.
Worked on Dapper.

Setting "nosplash" in menu.lst gives me back my consoles, killing my splashscreen of course. Still, I never had this problem with dapper.

May be duplicate of bug 63558?

Yes, seems you're correct. Setting vga=791 fixed the consoles for me.
The splashscreen isn't centered anymore and thus looks a bit weird, but otherwise everything seems to work.

I can confirm that I miss the console on an Dell Inspiron 6400.. the screens are blank. Disabling "splash" form the kernel-boot-commandline give them back.

Clean Edgy install.
