Bug Description

Synnaptic IMHO shouldn´t have its own proxy settings but honor those set in the "administration" applet.

Does nobody read the bug reports? Many of my reports stay in "unconfirmed" for monts or even years, this is quite disappointing.

Thanks for your bugreport.

If synaptic is run via gksu (the default in ubuntu) then the proxy settings from gnome are honored since IIRC edgy. Sometimes the reports are not updated in a case like this, but I can assure you that we do not forget the issues :)

Please let me know if that answer your request, if not, please add more information how exactly the system should work.

Cheers,
 Michael

I just wonder if the system settings are used in synaptic, why does synaptic still have an extra "proxy" option in the settings? Is this obsolete?

This extra option exists for people who don't use gksu or the gnome preferences (xubuntu for example).

Thats of course useful if you don't use GNOME, IMHO it's just a litte bit confusing because when I set it to "direct connection" it still uses the proxy settings. Perhaps there should be an option "use system settings" (which is selected by default) beside "direct connection" and "manual settings". This is the way e.g. Firefox goes.
