Bug Description

Binary package hint: wesnoth

I'm running Edgy and have wesnoth 1.1.8-1 from the repos. The normal single player campaigns seem to be missing from the install. They should be in /usr/share/games/wesnoth/data/campaigns. I downloaded wesnoth 1.1.11 source from the wesnoth.org site and found that the campaigns were included in the source folder data/campaigns.

Copying the campaigns folder from the wesnoth 1.1.11 source into /usr/share/games/wesnoth/data/ worked great and now I can play the single player campaigns. This appears to just be a packaging problem.

Also, the music and map editor are not included and should be.

The music and map editor need to be separate bugs.

Sorry that's missing sound - you have sound but no music?

Debian have a separate wesnoth-music package.

Make sure you have this installed.

Debian has some more:

http://packages.debian.org/stable/games/wesnoth-sotbe Son of the Black Eye campaign for Wesnoth
http://packages.debian.org/stable/games/wesnoth-tdh The Dark Hordes campaign for Wesnoth

We should sync these two from debian.

Are there any more we should have?

Yes I have sound but no music, after installing the music package, the music folder is in place. The same with the installation of the scenarios packages. As far as the map editor package goes, the executable was not installed but it seems that localization files were.

Why would all of these packages not be required by the normal wesnoth package?

They are not required to run the game - the campaigns and music are listed as recommends of wesnoth-data (http://packages.ubuntu.com/edgy/games/wesnoth-data)

wesnoth-editor (1.1.8-1) isn't listed as a suggests on wesnoth and should be.

Changed in wesnoth:
status: Unconfirmed → Rejected

But why aren't they marked required on wesnoth, really?

Sorry if I'm sounding whiny, but my confusion comes from using the
Add/Remove programs area to install the game. If I was a novice user
(which maybe I am...), how would I know of the existence of other
packages? There aren't any notes saying how or where to download
other packages. It is only the shell of a game because you can only
play multiplayer. I understand that this may just be my opinion and
everyone plays the game just for the multiplayer, but I wanted it to
be at least noted in this bug.
