Bug Description

Binary package hint: mplayer

Using Ubuntu 10.10

Currently, mplayer complains about libvdpau_nvidia.so no present on the system, with this message :
"Failed to open VDPAU backend libvdpau_nvidia.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"
The only solution is to install nvidia-current which contain this file (/usr/lib/libvdpau_nvidia.so)
However, I use an ATI card, I should not need to install this package. So, it should not complain about this.
This problem is more visible on gnome-mplayer, which display an error message each time it tries to open a video (see bug #712348)

Still happens in 11.10 oneiric with Intel / Radeon switchable graphics if vdpau video output is selected.

This is a cosmetic issue only. You can avoid it by explicitly setting the video output plugin you want to use instead of default, which is a list of modules to try in turn.
