Bug Description

On a Sony VAIO FE31H (Dual Core, 120Gb SATA, 1Gb RAM, GeForce 7400) laptop.

Message is:

[17179571.196000] PCI: Failed to allocate mem resource #6:20000@c0000000 for 0000:01:00.0

This is related to the 7400 graphics adapter as far as I can see.

Does this cause any problems? Do you have problems with the graphics adaptor?

This bug is not causing any specific issues that I can see at present.

This issue is not just restricted to dapper and affects edgy, gentoo and a number of other distributions. Searching the net this issues is starting to appear more as others attempt to install GNU Linux on newer laptops with nvidia adaptors.

Just as a side note. This message also appears in the stock release fedora 6 kernel, but is not present in their 2.6.18-1.2798.fc6 kernel update.

This test was performed with no nvidia driver installed and was only using stock fedora packages, so can quite rightly now be regarded as a kernel issue.

The VGN-FE31B has the same nvidia card and a similar warning with kernel 2.6.20-16-generic

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Hardy Heron. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at [WWW] http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ . Thanks again and we appreciate your help.
