Bug Description

Binary package hint: kdebase-data

Hi,

I'm running the Feisty Fawn, and I'm having trouble updating kdebase-data from 4:3.5.5-0ubuntu4 to 4:3.5.5a.dfsg.1-1ubuntu5. It seems as though the file:

/usr/share/doc/kde/HTML/en/kinfocenter/cdinfo/index.cache.bz2

which is part of the new kdebase-data, is already in kcontrol.

Okay, so there's also a new kcontrol package, which (presumably) doesn't have the conflicting file. I can't upgrade kcontrol until kdebase-data has been upgraded, but I can't upgrade kdebase-data with the existing kcontrol in place!

I've always tried to tout the superiority of the Debian package system, but this sounds a lot like RPM hell to me.

Okay, so I upgraded a bunch of packages manually with dpkg, and then the apt-get dist-upgrade worked. That's a workaround, though, not a fix.

In general, is there a safe way to move a file from one package to another? Perhaps this should be an APT RFE... the ability to resolve circular dependencies involving file conflicts.

Rejecting. Nobody seems to have read it, anyway.
