mutt segfaults

Bug Description

I use mutt with IMAP and have just configured spambayes.

Tried to read my email and tried to access my mailbox when mutt segfaulted. (my wild guess -- maybe spambayes was accessing my mailbox at the same time).

I use edgy.

I have the same problem, mutt segfaults, but triggered a
different way. I was just using IMAPSSL to open a mailbox
on an exchange server that had about 19,000 messages and
after it downloaded all the message headers, which took 5 to
10 minutes, it segfaulted.

I frequently see segfaults accessing a relatively large folder (45000 messages, approx. 500 MiB total message size) via TLS-upgraded IMAP. I'm using a directory folder cache on my home directory (JFS).

There isn't a pattern that I can see as to what triggers these.

Thank you for reporting this bug. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with the latest Ubuntu release?

Also, if the bug is still there, can you try to find steps that we can follow to reproduce it?

Thanks!

mutt will crash if I leave it logged in to the central IMAP service here
(Cyrus imapd 2.3.7 via Cambridge University's "proxy", version 1.2.4

It crashes several times a day and also usually if I leave it
authenticated over night.

Hi Tim,

Can you confirm which version of mutt you're using, please?

There are lots of problems in Mutt's bug list related to IMAP, so I'm trying to see if there's a match with what you describe and what's listed there. Can you identify any common feature to the crashes, for instance, does it crash spontaneously when left at the message index screen, or if returning to the index after viewing a message for a long time? Perhaps when new mail comes in?

Finally, are you using imap or imaps to connect, and do any error messages appear when it crashes?

Anything to help narrow it down would be useful. Thanks!

I'm running 1.5.15+20070412-1ubuntu1

The crash seems to be spontaneous at the message index screen, but might
happen when new mail arrives (I get a reasonable volume of messages).

I always leave one mutt process looking at INBOX and another at
INBOX.Sent

I connect via IMAP with STARTTLS and I use imap header cacheing.

To be sure the two aren't interfering with each other, can you try running with just one mutt at a time and see if the problem continues? Thanks.

Is this symptom still reproducible in 8.10 alpha?

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug. As this bug has been marked for expiration about 100 days ago, Intrepid is released and Jaunty is right before doors I am closing this bug for now. If you run into this problem again with Jaunty, please file a new bug and try to get a backtrace as described here:

Thank you for making Ubuntu better.
