Bug Description

nvidia-glx | 1.0.9629+2.6.19.2-1 | http://archive.ubuntu.com feisty/restricted Packages

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV28 [GeForce4 Ti 4800 SE] (rev a1)

% glxinfo
name of display: :0.0
zsh: segmentation fault (core dumped) glxinfo

This is a known bug: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=79703

nVidia's comment: "It will be fixed in a future driver release. The current recommended workaround is to downgrade to 1.0-9626 or 1.0-8776."

(9626 has its own problems, e.g. TV-Out is not detected.)

nVidia released 1.0.6931, which should fix this according to the release highlights: http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_display_ia32_1.0-9631.html

I built a l-r-m package with 1.0.6931, that indeed fixes this bug.

Shouldn't importance be anything higher than medium? This bug should probably affect quite a lot of users? Also a bit disturbing to see the bug having been fixed in upstream for over a week and no action.

Ulrik, this only affects feisty, which is still in development. It's bound to have bugs. I'm sure Ubuntu developers will attend to this before 2007-04. :-)

Sorry, I might be "jumping the gun", but I see no apparent reason why a development version should receive less updates than a released version? On the contrary, in a released version, updates have to be a LOT more thoroughly considered, reviewed, and tested, before release.

Regarding the importance, the fault itself should be just as "bad" now as it had been in March 2007? Only the impact on the release would be greater in march, which is why i still think the bug itself deserves a bit higher rating than "medium".

Anyways, I just hope someone fixes this soon. I like staying on the bleeding edge to be able to beta-test and come with feedback and suggestions BEFORE things are set in stone. I'm prepared to mess around with road bumps and an unbootable system from time to time, but seeing an error being fixed and not sharing the effects is a little frustrating. :)
