In an attempt to repro this to get logs, I downloaded Natty Alpha 3 (daily build 20110309) to my home server - and attempted an install. Ten minutes after clicking Forward on the "Preparing to install Ubuntu" screen, the wait icon is still spinning - it never makes any progress to the next screen.

Looks like I had the same issue when attempting to install Alpha 3 into a VirtualBox 4.0.4 VM

Yes, this does appear to be the same thing in VirtualBox as well.

Thanks for your report.

Could you please try with Natty Beta 1?

If it fails, could you please boot to a live session, open a terminal and start the installer with:
$ ubiquity -d

Then attach the logs files in /var/log/installer/ and /var/log/syslog
Thanks
