Bug Description

unbuntu 6.10
checkgmail 1.10-1 (from the ubuntu edgy repos.)
networkmanager 0.6.3

when checkgmail has been started prior a connection is established (e.g. startup), the error message (and broken checkgmail-symbol) is present, even if the connection exists in the meanwhile and a message poll works correctly.
a restart of checkgmail is the only way to solve the issue.

thx martin

instead of www.gmail.com try mail.google.com/mail/feed/atom it is set to that in mine by default on feisty and it works so maybe that is why.

thx fore quick reply!

Error:500 Cant connect to www.google.com: 443 (bad hostname) is only the text in the error - message

the setting is mail.google.com/mail/feed/atom as you mentioned.

as soon as the Internet connection is established, all works but the error message and the broken symbol persist.

Thanks for your report.
I can't reproduced this bug, after about 5 minutes all return to be ok.
Have you try to wait some minutes?

Thanks

after ~10min no change.
message check interval is set to 120 sec.

do you need some further information concerning my network (nwmannager) settings? is there any possibility generate logs fore debugging?

greetings

as already mentioned, polling works fine but:
- symbol stays broken
- when the mouse pointer is overhead the symbol a tooltip is generated with altering messages: 1. the error message, 2. "Anmelden bei Google-Mail ..." (engl. sign in to google-mail?) and the message preview included.

after a "check mail", the symbol is fine fore ~1sec, then reverts to broken.

all returned to normal after about ~45min... any chance to update the status right after the connection has been established?

appreciating any hints!

thx and nice we!

Thanks for the comment, please try to launch checkgmail from terminal with -v and see if it says something useful.
Is it also possible for you to try to remove nwmanager and see if the problem is still present?

By the way in the canghe log of last version you can read: "BUGFIX: If version 1.10 was started when no network connection was present, checkgmail got caught in an infinite loop when trying to log in, with predictably disasterous consequences ... :( This has been fixed by adding a 30 sec sleep period between trying to connect" see https://sourceforge.net/project/shownotes.php?group_id=137480&release_id=459054

Thanks

This bug is fixed in the current version 0.10.1 which is already in Feisty.
I downloaded the feisty package and installed it on my Edgy. I had no dependency problems.

Here is the changelog for the new checkgmail version:
https://sourceforge.net/project/shownotes.php?group_id=137480&release_id=459054

I'd like to see a backport to Edgy for the new version, because the bug is really annoying and causes the cpu running on 100% until there is a network connection available.
