Bug Description

Binary package hint: gdm

Thanks for your comment. Ubuntu gets its translations from
http://launchpad.net/rosetta. This is the place where translation teams
actively work on making Ubuntu more useful in their language. If you want
to change a certain text, Rosetta is the right place for it.

Please don't reject perfectly valid bugs.
Malone is a status tracker for bugs including translation issues.
Malone is not about closing as much bugs as possible, bugs that are present in Ubuntu should be kept open so other people can find them, confirm them or fix them.
When bugs are fixed they should be marked "Fix Commited" or "Fix Released". Please use "Rejected" sparsely and only for invalid bugs.

I know Rosetta is used for translations (I did some translations before), I just did not find were to change the wrong translations in this case. I believe the Ubuntu Dutch Translators Team is better placed to handle this.

Putting the status back to Unconfirmed, since I can't confirm my own bugs.

I agree, we can't expect from users that they start hacking into other peoples translations with Rosetta.

Then I'll reject it again, that's policy for translation bugs.

The bug description is not in english so not easy to reply on it, reassigning to the nl team and language-pack rather than closing.

seb: First off, I'm the lead of said translation team. Secondly, bugs
that are things that should be fixed in rosetta have always been closed
like this in the past. Please don't play bug pingpong.

I can confirm the bug in edgy.
However, I do not seem to have the option to set the status of this bug to 'confirmed'
I will try to hunt for the wrong translation and fix it as soon as have some time left. (probabaly at the end of this week)

BTW: this fault might be one of the many caused by Rosetta brokenness, so I want to keep it around to check after the launchpad developers release their fixes...

Ok, I give up -- what use are bug policies if noone adheres to them?

Considering that this bug is not in upstream, it is most likely dependent on https://launchpad.net/products/rosetta/+bug/68014 to be fixed...

And just closing all translation bugs is a bad policy, considering that:
 - most users can't change anything in Rosetta (for good reasons)
 - it takes ages to find where to fix translation bugs using Rosetta
 - Rosetta has a habit of reverting the fixes after some time[*]

[*] yes, I know they are working on a fix, but it's not here yet...

I just had a look at the gdm translation in rosetta.
It's fubarred!

In any case, the relevant mgsid _Hibernate was according to Rosetta wrongly translated to _Slaapstand by a person called Rintze Zelle on 2006-03-22.

But this module has fallen victim of the Rosetta/Launcpad/whatever bug where it is using old obsolete translations to replace good valid current translations.
At some places it is using incorrect translations from november 2005, where it shows a correct 'used elsewhere' suggestion from march 2006.

Is this still an issue? It's easier to make translations in Launchpad today.

Don't know if it's still an issue, but I strongly suggest to import the upstream translation since it has improved a lot.
