Bug Description

Binary package hint: listen

I've just switched to using listen as a music player. I like it a lot apart from one very annoying 'feature', which is that it randomly adds extra songs to the end of the playlists I have chosen whether I want it to or not. There is a configuration option ('play a random file when the playlist is empty') which is supposed to turn this off, I think, but it doesn't seem to make any difference. A friend of mine has had the same problem, and has stopped using it because of this. It's nearly enough to make me look for another player, but I am sticking with it because I like the interface, so could someone please sort this out. I am going to have a quick look at the source to see if it is easy to remove this feature, but I probably don't know the code well enough to do this properly, so it would be good if one of the developers could have a look at this.

cheers, andy baxter.

I just sussed out how to stop this: make sure listen is not running (including in the system tray), then edit the config file '~/.listen/config'

Look for a config entry called 'dynamic', then set its value to false. I think this is equivalent to clicking the icon that looks like a CD below the playlist on the right, but doing it this way makes sure you have the right value set, as the action of this icon is a bit ambiguous (you can't tell whether it is selected or unselected).

Can I suggest that listen be packaged with this option off by default, as it's not that obvious how to turn it off, and unless people know, it's an annoying feature when you don't want it?
