gmail chat view crashes firefox

Bug Description

Firefox crashes consistently if I select the
`standard with chat' `view' in gmail:

The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'.
  (Details: serial 118 error_code 8 request_code 144 minor_code 3)

Running with -safe-mode and in a fresh X
session doesn't help. This is in up-to-date edgy
on x86.

I couldn't get a backtrace out of it by attaching to the
running firefox-bin before provoking the crash. (I ran
with --sync and a breakpoint in gdk_x_error, per
instructions printed at the crash.)

For the benefit of anyone else with the problem:
I managed to use epiphany to turn off the chat
feature so that I could use the `standard view' again
in firefox.

Thanks for your bug report. Could you please install firefox-dbg and try to obtain a backtrace (or crash report) by following the instructions on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingFirefox This will greatly aid us in tracking down your problem.

Which flash package do you have installed?
Which Java package do you have installed?
Which firefox extensions do you have installed?

Thanks
David

As I said, I tried to produce a backtrace (consistently with what that
web page suggests) and failed. I wonder whether it's something to do
with threading, but I don't have time or enthusiasm to figure it out.

Presumably none are relevant when it crashes in safe mode, as
reported.
