Bug Description

My laptop Acer Aspire 5101ANWLMi has Realtek ALC883 sound card.
I use Ubuntu 7.04
I can hear the sound only on the right side of my headphones (the same effect is with speakers). There is no problem with my headphones or spekers, they works correctly with other OS.
Volum Control: Realtek ALC883 (OSS Mixer) shows that both channels (left and right) are at the same level.

In System->Preferences->Sound: Devices shows Autodetect. I tried to use other choices like: "ALC883", "ALSA", "ESD"(doesn't work), "OSS", but I had the same effects.

I found the solution:
Open the Volume Control, and in tab Volume, unlock channels for Volume together (click the "chain" icon). Move the volume for the left channel until you hear the sound for the left channel. Finaly, lock the channels.
I think somewhere the volume for the left channel is set to 0.

Reduce the volume for the right channel, and slide the volume button for the left channel until you start to hear the sound.
It is important to reduce the volume for the right channel, first !!!

After reboot, I have to do this again, so this is a bug.

I've seen the same problem on a friend's 5102wlmi laptop, and it can be solved like this :

1- Right click on the volume control icon

2- Mute the sound

3- Unmute the sound

Then, you have sound on both headphones. Note that you will have to do it everytime you restart your laptop.

IMPORTANT : There is not this problem on Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy.
