Bug Description

Boot the Intel 2.16 GHz Core 2 Duo 2GB ram 20" iMac with the Herd1 cd in the drive and hold 'c'.

The menu where you can choose whether to install or do something else did not seem to react, and the iMac starts Gnome. Logging in works fine, but there's no sound and the screen is unreadable: there are diagonal stripes. The mouse can be moved, but the pointer is a stripe of several centimeters. I think the resolution is not recognised.

Switching to other tty's was possible, ie the screen turned black. However, no command prompt appeared. Maybe this is normal for the live cd?

Ask me any information you need for this bug, the cd remains there, ready to boot ;-)

I have tried booting from the Herd 2 cd with the same machine.

The following issue from my original bug report is solved: "the menu where you can choose whether to install or do something else did not seem to react". With Herd 2, this menu works without any problems.

I have a 20" Intel iMac, too.

Both Edgy i386 and Feisty Herd 2 i386 have the same problem.
The boot menue works fine, but X does not work correctly.
The ATI Radeon X1600 destroys the screen completely.
Chosing safe mode in the boot menu did not do the trick.

Look at the screenshots: http://www.netaction.de/bin/ubuntu/

I want to help fixing the bug, if possible.

No, I was wrong. It happens only with the latest i386 ISO of Feisty. Edgy and Herd 2 do not even start X.

I startet the normal live CD without any changes in configuration.
You see the lspci -vv, /etc/X11/xorg.conf and /var/log/Xorg.0.log here: http://www.netaction.de/bin/ubuntu/details/

Now, in Ubuntu Feisty i386 Herd 3, the bug is gone.

The boot menu works fine, the splash looks strange but works, X starts in 1024x768 vesa.
Not good, but OK.
