Seems that the nvidia module is not present:

md5sum: /lib/modules/2.6.17-10-generic/kernel/drivers/video/nvidia.ko: No such file or directory

There are these nvidia modules installed:
/lib/modules/2.6.17-10-generic/kernel/drivers/char/agp/nvidia-agp.ko
/lib/modules/2.6.17-10-generic/kernel/drivers/video/nvidia/nvidiafb.ko

Yes, this was resolved by re-installing and rebooting the system.

It seems that I don't have a permission to change the status, but maybe someone who has can change it.
