Same on Asus EEE 1005HA. Strange bug, looks like some video driver issue. So, in 11.4 hibernation does not work at all.

Here's an interesting trick, that solved the problem for me, sort of:

When the screen hangs after waking up from hibernate, go into _suspend_ and wake back up from suspend. That should give you back a normal screen.

Perhaps this trick might work for you too (as a kluge solution) until the driver/whatever other issue gets resolved.

@Amar

How to go to suspend after hibernating..The scren will be with different colours, and you are unable to type your password, how can we go to suspend mode.

Can you elaborate it properly,so that we can also do that

@varun kumar, for me there are two ways to suspend:

(1) Although the screen is garbled, the dialogue asking for your password is there - just type it and hit return. On my screen, the left hand 25% is clean, so I can find the power down options and suspend.

(2) Alternatively, and much more simply, I can just close the screen/lid. With the correct power management options, the PC will suspend.

Hi I hope this helps, but after a bit of investigation, I found that my hibernation stopped working because of IPMI. For some reason, modprobe was stuck on the openipmi module, causing the system to hang on either shutdown or hibernation. The current work around was to disable the following services:

ipmievd and openipmi

I did that by simply moving the /etc/init.d files as follows:

mv /etc/init.d/ipmievd /etc/init.d/ipmievd-bak

mv /etc/init.d/openipmi /etc/init.d/openipmi-bak

I hope this helps...

+1 on Acer Aspire One 531h after upgrading from 10.10 to 11.04 yesterday. Cannot find the files L Martin mentioned, too.

So did everyone affected an upgrade? Or does this also appear on a clean install?

Performed clean install on an acer aspire one. I just tried hibernation today and the bug affects me too.
I can also confirm what Amar said about going into suspend and resuming again fixes the issue (until the next hibernation of course)
Also I do not have any ipmi related files in /etc/init.d so it doesn't seem to be related

Hello

With my Aspire One D255E I have te same issue. However when I get back from hibernation I still see the right hand side of the screen, so only the majority on the left is scrambled.

I also found that solution: go into suspend and go back. The screen gets back to normal. Switching screens with ctrl+alt+Fx (x - number 1-7) does not work either.

Any other solution to that issue?
