Bug Description

Binary package hint: koctave

I have the Dapper version of Ubuntu.
I installed koctave (including octave), however, it seems that it coudn't find the path as it initially report that it is assuming /usr/bin/octave as a path. After that, a crash report appear, which I am attaching.
This seems to be a simple problem of giving a prper path in the makefile or script.
Any idea?
Gustavo

Have you tested this on edgy, at least on my edgy this was not reproducible?

I have almost the same problem with the edgy version of Ubuntu. When I open it from the Ubuntu desktop, sometimes it just do not open, other time, Koctave open and every thing seems ok, but when I click on the window, it closes systematicaly. When I try to start it from a terminal, I have this error:

KCrash cannot reach kdeinit, launching directly.

Please, somebody help me, I really need to use this program and I would like to stay on ubuntu because I like it.

Thanks

Hi again,

I installed the KNetattach via the Add/Remove manager of Ubuntu. After that, when I try to start Koctave it now does a bug report that is very similar to the one gcordoba as posted.

anyway, it doesn't work. Does somebody as an answer to this problem?

Okidou. I intalled the kdebase package with synaptic (system>Administration>Synaptic Package Manager). As I said previously, I had already installed the kdebase.bin package with the add/remove application of ubuntu. So I just installed the kdebase in synaptic not the *.bin. After that, Koctave seems to work well when I launch it from the ubuntu desktop it's nice and everything seems ok. When I launch it from a terminal, I still have a strange error message, but koctave starts and everything seems ok. The message I have is:

X Error: BadDevice, invalid or uninitialized input device 168
  Major opcode: 148
  Minor opcode: 3
  Resource id: 0x0
Failed to open device
X Error: BadDevice, invalid or uninitialized input device 168

  Minor opcode: 3
  Resource id: 0x0
Failed to open device

kOctave: WARNING: KXMLGUIClient::setXMLFile: cannot find .rc file editorui.rc
kOctave: WARNING: KXMLGUIClient::setXMLFile: cannot find .rc file editorui.rc

I don't know if it's a problem but anyway, koctave works now, that is a good beginning.

It seems that it is a problem:
0) It is only possible to run the program from a terminal
1)The program only starts in that way if the internet connection is working (???)
2) If I try to exit, the program crashes and crt-c need to be done to let it to stop
However the most important is:
3) without internet it can not run and reports:
"no lib found, check that kdebase is properly installed"
The problem is that synaptic couldnt install it, nor konkeror.
I dont know if your problem is the same as I got the wrong idea to upsdate from dapper to edgy.
However, it sounds to me as a bug related with gnome-kde compatibility.

Gustavo
