Bug Description

Binary package hint: unity

Like LP #757810 and LP #763275, Unity still occasionally fails to intellihide / autohide. I'm on a newer version than these bugs were fixed in:
nux-tools:
  Installed: 0.9.48-0ubuntu1
unity:
  Installed: 3.8.12-0ubuntu1

Reproduction steps unknown. Comments on the other bugs suggest this is happening to others too.
This is not caused by youtube/flash, like LP #769198.

Guesses: I am running dual-head with the primary monitor on the right, i.e. the unity bar appears down the centre of my screen area, and I am running various non-free applications including i.e. Intellij IDEA, Chrome, spotify-wine, ... (i.e. wine, and Java/Swing).

I have the same problem. I also use IntelliJ (in its PyCharm incarnation), and I just noticed that exiting and reopening does indeed unstuck Unity.

I can confirm this on a single-monitor setup. It happened after switching back and forth between workspaces a couple of times, but I don't have exact steps.

This also happens to me. Unity both fails to autohide and dodge windows. It's definitely happens in connection with the use of LibreOffice Writer, where closing the application solves the problem. And sometimes the problem just solves itself, or at least I don't no why it's solved.
Maybe it also happens when I use other application, I don't know, because I almost always have Writer open.

Also here. I have seen it without an LibreOffice apps open, however the last time it happened, I was editing in LibreOffice Impress. Closing LibreOffice Impress resolved the problem in this case.

Previously, I had tried "> unity --replace" but when Unity re-appeared, it didn't auto-hide. That time I logged out and back in again..

I have unity 3.8.16, kernel 2.6.38-10-generic, AMD x86_64 an ATI graphics card (but not using the fglrx driver) ..

I have identified a way to cause unity to stick open:

1. Open Kile in full secreen mode with the "Open File" pane open on the left edge of the screen.
2. Drag a file from the list (doesn't matter where - it's starting to drag that matters)
3. Unity opens and remains open, even when changing desktops, applications etc..
4. Quit Kile
5. Unity closes and subsequently behaves normally

I have:
Kile Version 2.0.85
Using KDE Development Platform 4.6.2 (4.6.2)
unity 3.8.16
kernel 2.6.38-10-generic
...
(let me know if you need more info..)

The bug occurs at random moments when using LibreOffice calc - hard to identify when, seems to be associated with mouse clicks but I havn't found a systematic way to make it happen.

But.. I can cause unity to hide by selecting then in eclipse! It's the mouse release event after a drag that hides Unity.

If some applications are causing mouse drag events in unpredictable ways, perhaps it would be good to set Unity to show only when something is dragged to the edge where it's hiding, not in response to all 'start drag' events..
Or at least have this as an option? (Perhaps it IS an option - if so, please post how to do it here :)

I'm having this same problem on an up to date installation of Oneiric. I notice it most frequently when running Chrome fully maximised, no other applications running. Unity launcher also sometimes does not close when in dodge windows mode. I have discovered that by dragging an icon, picture, etc. over the launcher but not dropping it there causes it to properly hide again.
