Bug Description

My current power settings are as follows:

On Battery: Suspend when inactive for 30 minutes; Suspend when lid is closed
When Plugged In: Dont suspend when inactive; dont suspend when lid is closed

However, even though my Thinkpad x201 is plugged in, the settings are being ignored and the system is suspending the system after periods of inactivity.

I should add that this is a regression from Natty. I just upgraded this machine from Natty to Oneiric this morning, and this problem has only occurred since then.

Started to mark this as High, because it's a regression and pretty annoying, however, I'll leave that to someone else to decide ultimately.

I agree with Jeff; 'Has a moderate impact on a large portion of Ubuntu users' and 'Has a severe impact on a small portion of Ubuntu users' (depending if you really relied on your laptop not suspending).

Or if you rely on your HTPC from not suspending while 'inactive'! ;) Thanks for marking my report as a duplicate, not sure how I missed this one.

This is a regression within the last few days. Definitely I did not see this problem 1 week ago.

Using nothing other than changelog entries, i suspect regression occurred here https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/oneiric-changes/2011-September/010574.html .

Just an update - I changed the setting to allow it to suspend, and then changed it back and it seems to have stuck. I will update here if it starts back.

I did the same thing Jayson, and everything stuck except not locking the screen after it turns off.

I have a quadcore desktop, it seems like telling the screen saver never to come on starts it fading out as soon as I stop moving the mouse as well... perhaps there's something broken in common.

I can confirm that after changing settings to allow suspending then changing back to no-suspend, the setting now persists. Resolved for me.

Try setting the screen turn-off to 'Never' and then stop moving the mouse. For me, it would immediately start to go dim as though I had it set to 0 sec instead of Never.

Matthew Woerly (nattgew) wrote :

I can confirm that changing to a suspend and then back to "never" kept the computer from suspending.
I can also confirm what Gremlyn1 said. Once screen is set to never turn off, it immediately starts dimming...

How about this for the power

and this for the screen turning off immediately

Just noticed these fixed in the latest update.

I now seem to be unable to prevent the computer from turning the monitor off after idle... at least it stays awake when I want it to I suppose, but it does make watching movies difficult :(

Any news on this ? Is configuring to suspend, closing power configuration, opening it again, setting to never ... able to solve the issue ?

That doesn't work for me - I've tried just about every combination of opening and closing the power settings.

This issue still exists and on a fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04.

Specifically, I can't get the Gnome-Power-Manager to honor the "Do Nothing" setting, when my laptop lid is closed:

May be my problem is relative.

I use x230 on dock station. On kubuntu power manager
"when laptop lid is closed" is set to do nothing
"Even when a externnal monitor is connected" is checked

but when i close laptop all monitors go to sleep
