Bug Description

optical.txt contains two essentially identical tests. optical/dvd_movie_playback and optical/dvd_playback. The second one should just be removed as the dvd_movie_playback test is more detailed and they both achieve the same thing.

Does the default Ubuntu installation include the stuff needed to play a DVD out of the box?

Also, one thing I like about the second (optical/dvd_playback) is that it auto-launches totem for you, thus sparing the user of having to look for and launch the movie player manually (which is outside of the scope of this test I think).

In any case, I'm marking this triaged and importance: low, as the test is not included in the default whitelist and thus is only an issue for custom whitelists that may be using both tests.

It doesn't contain the decryption software required to play DVDs out of the box. There is setup you need to do, by installing libdvdread4 and running a script.

OK, see bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/checkbox/+bug/772731 for a more detailed discussion. So I'm setting this to Triaged. The work to be done is simply to remove the optical/dvd_playback test, since apparently it's not being used by us or other teams. Of course, if you think the test should absolutely not be removed, please say so :)
