Binary package hint: ubiquity
when I was installing Ubuntu 6.10 (64-bit) on the hard disc an installer crashed after several minutes of copying files onto the disc (it was at 79% in progress).
i have:
sempron 64 3200+ am2
abit kn9
2x512MB ddr2 667 mhz goodram (tested with memtest)
250gb sata2 western digital
dvd-rw sata and ide (system was booted from dvd ide; from dvd sata installation crashed before loading X server)
gf 7300gt 128mb ddr3

I also got this error, but at the beginning of the installation process. Since nothing had been installed I had no way of attaching any files. The only thing I noticed that might be helpful was the message "out of disk space" at the end of the trace, despite the fact that my root partition had 8GB.
I now have no way to continue the installation, which is quite frustrating.
