It seems to be happening to me on pretty much a daily basis now. And I think it's always associated with Matlab in some way.

It could possibly be when I've launched Matlab with a different display configuration than last time I launched it. I was using Matlab on my laptop at home, and then when I launched it with my laptop docked with a secondary display this morning, the lockup occured immediately. It required a full reboot to resolve the issue, logging in and out was not sufficient.

[Problem]
Hangs using matlab on ubuntu have been reported by a number of people. The gpu error codes look rather generic, so not sure if these are usable. But we usually never hear from matlab users so something seems to be up. If you have access to a copy of matlab perhaps you can reproduce it on your end?

Configure before switching on.

The GPU is behaving like a naughty peeping tom and looking into places it shouldn't.

Hi Chris

I'd be happy to try this patch out (I'm one of the affected ones), but I haven't much experience with this kind of thing. Would it be possible for you (or someone) to step me through what I'd need to do?

Hi Chris et. al.

I'm happy to test this out, but not 100% sure what to do - any chance someone could outline the steps? I'm seeing the problem under 64-bit Ubuntu 12.04 when using matlab.

Could somebody build a deb package with that patch? I'd be more than happy to test it!

Although this issue is very annoying as it impedes to use matlab at all, I found a (non ideal) workaround that may be useful for you as well, which is to only use opengl by software (type 'opengl software' in the matlab console at startup).

As I said using opengl by software is not ideal but at least matlab doesn't crash my system anymore...

I have got the IPEHR 0x01000000, too. But in my case, it has been triggered by LibreOffice Writer while highlighting a word by spell/grammar checking. Previously i have seen other IPEHR codes (0x7a000003 twice, https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/966631), maybe there is some hidden link between those issues ...

xserver-xorg: 1:7.6+12ubuntu1
libdrm2: 2.4.32-1ubuntu1
xserver-xorg-video-intel: 2:2.17.0-1ubuntu4.2

I have got an apport crash dump, i can upload it if required.
