Bug Description

I'm running Feista beta on an Intel D3C5201 motherboard. When selecting the Hibernate option from the Quit window, the graphical interface disappears after a second. I then see messages on the console ending with the following lines:

usbdev7.1_ep00: PM: resume from 0, parent usb7 still 2
usbdev7.1_ep81: PM: resume from 0, parent 7-0:1.0 still 2
Power down.

Then, the machine is stalled on that last message. After powering down the machine manually and powering it up again, a password prompt is presented as should be expected. After entering a password, the session is restored from the previous state.

So, the problem only seems to be with powering down the machine.

By the way, when selecting Shutdown instead of Hibernate from the Quit window, the machine also stalls. However, instead of displaying the "Power down" message, the user only sees the Ubuntu logo and the progress bar.

Tim, this is a hw cert bug. Please work with Marc to see if we can fix it for release.

It might be that the new libata-acpi stuff will fix it. If the machine can be installed with feisty, then perhaps just a test kernel to see if it is fixed in git would suffice.

I have tried to reproduce the hibernation problem after having booted from the 2.6.20-14-generic kernel and I still experience the exact same problem as before. Perhaps this is a limitation of the BIOS?

Wont be fixed for release. Likely a BIOS bug anyway (ACPI handles powerdown of system, kernel just calls the ACPI function to do it).

Hi Marc,

Just curious if these boards are still being certified and if so does this issue still exist in Hardy? Thanks.

The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux-image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and test.

--or--

2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4. Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced. You should then be able to test via a LiveCD.

Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the 2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26 kernel. Thanks again, we really appreicate your help and feedback.
