worker crashes with segmentation fault on launch

Bug #994464 reported by Jonas Hellström

Affects Status Importance Assigned to Milestone
worker (Ubuntu)
Confirmed
Undecided

Bug Description

(I can't for some reason find out how to attach a CrashDump or anything else from the automatic crash-report when launching, so I have to resort to trying to describe everything by hand...)

InstallationMedia
Lubuntu 12.04 "Precise Pangolin" - Release i386 (20120423)

Package
worker 2.18.1-1

SegvAnalysis
Skipped: missing required field "Disassembly"

Desktop Environment: openbox
Default file manager (don't know if this is relevant): PCManFM
Description of crash: When running "worker" from a terminal the result is a crash and the terminal outputs "Segmentation fault (core dumped)"

One version of worker does indeed function very well, 2.17.6-1, which I am using at the moment. I can't for the life of me figure out why the latest release of worker through apt won't run, though.

Worker will work if recompile without avfs (--with-avfs=no)

or see rai4shu2 comment on bug #913077 (building avfs with -D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=0)

Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.

Changed in worker (Ubuntu):
status: New → Confirmed

Hi all,
it is easy reproducible with live CD 12.04 (run -> add Universe repository -> install worker).
Jean Goudreault is right: disabling avfs it works again.

Thanks a lot for your time,
Andrea

Downloading the current version from Quantal (avfs_1.0.1-1_amd64.deb worker_2.19.2-2_amd64.deb worker-data_2.19.2-2_all.deb) then installing those on Precise works perfectly. No other updated packages seemed to be required.
