I had the same problem with the m2n32 sli deluxe, but I found people with this problem with others motherboards.

All related to Ubuntu or Kubuntu install with AMD64 arch.

At the boot we got the message:

Kernel alive
Kernel direct mapping tables up to 100000000@8000-d000

and the system freeze. With noapic and nolapic is possible to install Kubuntu, but after install the kernel hangs at the first step of the boot process.
If I boot the Feisty Kubuntu DVD with noapic and nolapic the boot freeze with this message for a while (30 to 40 seconds) and after this interval go on with the install process.
After the install, at the first boot I got the same "kernel direct mapping" message and the sistem freeze, if I use the noapci and nolapic at grub kernel line I got this message, after this a black screen and a total freeze, even the ctrl+alt+del is dead.

I tried noapci and nolapci at the grub line but it was impossible to start the boot process.
I upgraded the BIOS to the latest ASUS stable 706 and after to the latest beta version 1001, but I still having the same problem.
I tried a chroot, but I was using (at the install time) the Kurumin (Debian's son) 32 bits and the chroot failed. Now I have Mandriva 64 bits, so I can chroot.
If you guys have some kind of info request, please do it..! I will try to give you more details.
I and all the others guys tried the amd64 Kubuntu or Ubuntu install and gave up, changing for another distro because it was impossible to start the boot process. The system hangs up at the first kernel message.
With this rc.rattusrattus bug message I became motivated to try the install again and help the K-Ubuntu team to solve this problem.
