Out of curiosity, what filesystem are you using on your /home? Could you try
mounting with the option "nobarrier" or "barrier=0" and seeing if that helps?
There were some issues somewhere around where sqlite was kicking up a fuss on
filesystems with barriers enabled, ext4 being one of them.
