Hi,

Can I suggest an easier solution that could be rolled out from the repository? Checkinstall has a configuration file /etc/checkinstallrc. If this could be set with:

# Are we going to use filesystem translation?
TRANSLATE=0

This would get around the well known problem with checkinstall as acknowledged on their website:
