Workaround worked perfectly on 10.04 Lucid netbook remix, Acer Aspire One /1gb RAM/ 32GB supertalent SSD.
Corrupted package was "libc-bin"
Only one thing in workaround been amended:
use:
> /var/lib/
instead of:
> /sw/var/
