With the new default Mono icon theme, the icon for a wired connection is now completely different. Ironically, the new icon suffers from the same problem: it's ugly and confusing. But that is more specifically covered by bug 532522.

So, I'm narrowing this bug report to cover just the problem of showing the wired connection icon when it isn't interesting, because the PC is always wired.
