Hello, I had the same problem after reinstalling jaunty because of problems between KDE and Gnome in the same machine. When I tried "rmmod psmouse" I got an error so I checked modules. The problem was I have kernel 2.6.28-13 but I had the directory /lib/modules/2.6.28-11-generic.

I made

cp -R /lib/modules/2.6.28-11-generic /lib/modules/2.6.28-13-generic

and I solved the problem.
