I found a workaround for broken sleep in edgy. BTW - this also exists in Fiesty (kernel 2.6.20-15-386).
so the workaround is to install the package "powersaved" . This will remove the package "powernowd".

My hardware is mentioned above -compaq nx6110.
so, I will report this bug also under powesaved.
