I can confirm such a problem: USB mouse freezes randomly. No hint in dmesg at that time. After unplugging, the following appears:

After plugging the mouse back in, it still does not work. Any new usb devices will be ignored. USB seems kind of inaccessible, though other existing devices (keyboard etc) still work. lsusb command hangs silently.

I am going to try unloading ohci-hcd when the problem appears next. Boot options also remain to be tested.

The kernel ist custom built based on ubuntus linux-source-2.6.20-16.29. The only change I made was to activate verbose usb debugging messages.
