I understand .... the question is if it could have any negative impact on anything. The second question is, if the chip design allows to do the wol compatible shutdown better :D It would be neither first, nor the last "strange" HW design I've seen. But anyway ... it works and it's cheap :D The third question is ... how is it done in the M$ driver?

Off course I am gonna try Your patch and let You know. I see there was a lot of changes made in the driver "recently" and I think it really needed to be reorganized :)
