Same problem here, but my motherbord is ALi based.

My Sata controller (lspci)
SATA controller: ALi Corporation ULi M5288 SATA

uname -a:
Linux kubuvic 2.6.20-16-generic #2 SMP Thu Jun 7 20:19:32 UTC 2007 i686 GNU/Linux

Many people on the forum are experiencing slow sata...

An other problem with mi Sata disk (I don't know if it's related to this one or not):
sudo smartctl -i /dev/sda
