The 'grub workarounds' DID work for me (Lubuntu 16.04 on 1000H; once I stumbled across right search keywords, they are 'easy' do/try, tho I don't understand HOW they work).

<IMHO (naively), *I* feel this should be a HIGHER PRIORITY (than Medium) for Ubuntu/Canonical to FIX!!!
(STOP auto-breakxxxxxUpgrad-ing to 4.13! This is my 1st experience trying [non-VBox] Linux: shameful /IMHO>
