Using ubuntu gutsy, with all the updates and the bug it still there. I had the same problem with pptp. Even when I unchecked "Use Peer DNS" option, there were no nameserver entries in file /etc/resolv.conf when the NM made the VPN connection.
Installing the package resolvconf did solve the problem for me. It's the easiest fix so far.
