That's interesting, because it is not necessary to create any additional partition when I do manual partitioning with an ext4 filesystem. I've posted some install logs about that in bug 856763 .

I still believe this bug here to be unique because it causes grub to fail to install, which does not occur e.g. with reiserfs.
