I'm seeing this too. Noticed something strange:

[14:44] ~ $ cat /proc/fb
0 nouveaufb
1 VGA16 VGA

IIRC they never were there at the same time. Blacklisting 'vga16fb' in '/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-framebuffer.conf' followed by an 'update-initramfs -c -k all' brought me back to a clean boot to desktop.
