No, I did not happen in Ubuntu 8.04.1 LTS, but you are using a new screen for step 4 (partitioning), and this was the first alpha of 8.10 I tried (got a mail that more testers were needed).

I do actually have 15 partitions on hda, and 13 partitions on hdb.

I can not say at the moment that the window can be resizes, I need to start the cd again, and I already shut that computer down for today. I'll let you know tomorrow. I need some sleep as well (02.40 AM here).
