False alarm, there is no problem, except a problem with our computer's hardware. We recently bought the emachine from our neighbor, believing it's problems were caused by a Windows virus, and Linux would take care of the whole thing. We discovered however that he recently put in more RAM, so we took out that card and it fixed the problem right away.
