I have an up to date install, I don't even have an indicator-battery package available, though I have the gnome power manager. When running via command line, I see similar output as some of the posters above (some gibberish about not finding a file). Interestingly enough, Battery-status works just fine ( http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2011/02/battery-applet-status-ubuntu/ ), though now I'm having trouble getting indicator applet to remove the power icon.
Occasionally I also get other images going "missing", e.g. the wireless icon.
