using: unraw (alt+sysrq+R) and then sak (alt+sysrq+K combo) keys sent ma back to VT-1, and now ctr+alt+F... keys worked, so I was able to go back to VT8, there clicked restart X (it was running in low mode or soemthing, despite doing killall X kill `pidof X` etc).

After this operations, the GFX works now. The "sleep 1" work around as stated above is still in place.
