Using kdm, nvidia driver, Kubuntu 10.04. Same bug, started appearing with the 2.6.32-24-generic kernel.

I believe Linus Torvalds himself reports this bug back in 2007

It's some race condition that is an artifact of porting X to Linux ages ago. He says "we are stuck with it."
